Stages > Sculthorpe - Barsham > Barsham - Houghton St Giles / Catholic Marian Shrine: Please see the site plan in the Downloads tab > Optional: Houghton St Giles to Little Walsingham and the Our Lady of the Announciation Catholic Church (in the Friday Market area) and the Anglican Centre
Campsite There is no campsite at the shrine but during the New Dawn event each yar (late July early August) a number of large marques are set up in the surrounding fields and there are many hundreds of folk live under canvas for a week. The permanent toilet block is augmented by additional temporary facilities at this time.
Comments There are no shops en route to the Shrine once out of Fakenham. Best to stock up on provisions the day before. The map route shows the road route from the Catholic Shrine to Little Walsingham. However, a disused railway line has been converted to a path that runs north into Little Walsingham and avoids the vehicle traffic. This path can be accessed from the small Grays Lane that runs north west up the hill from the Slippper Chapel. The return bus service from close to the Shrine is very limited on a Sunday. You don't have much time after Mass to catch the bus back to Fakenham Oak Street where it changes its number and runs on to Norwich. There is no chance for the hungry pilgrim to jump off the bus, grab some food jump back on again - you have been warned. The original shrine site in Little Walsingham is a further one and a half miles further along the road.
